My multimedia installation Beyond Beauty is presented by the Toto Onsen Art Museum and Miya Onsen Art Project in Gamagori City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The site-specific installation for the Hiranoya Hotel comprises two quadraphonic sound compositions played in different areas of the hotel, digital illustration and photographs.
The installation is inspired by "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter," a Japanese proto-science fiction tale, dating to the late 9th or early 10th century. Set in a time of celestial strife, Kaguya, an infant princess is sent from her nation’s lunar capital, to be protected on earth. A bamboo harvester finds her in a bamboo stalk, glowing with unearthly light. His family adopts Kaguya. With their love, and the extraordinary embrace of difference, Kaguya flourishes and soon becomes a woman of exceptional beauty.
The installation points to the power of love and tolerance as restorative virtues for our times. The hotel’s salon becomes a refuge for the all-encompassing beautification during the post-pandemic era, when human contact has diminished, and excessive media stimulation has increased, often serving as a disruptive presence, especially for youth.

ジャズヒストリアンの家庭に生まれ、
現在はバークレイ音楽大学で教壇を取り、
音楽を他の芸術と共に
学祭的に捉える学部を創設。
コロナ後の時代において彼の芸術活動は
地域、国、そして世界の癒しをサポートする
ユニークな機会を提供している。
これは、プロとして
世界中のアーティストと
あらゆる芸術的手法の枠を超えて
コラボレーションし、
我々が共有する人間性を
称えるような方法で創造し
演奏することを意図して
始まったも のである。
彼の作品は、社会的·文化的変化における
「場」の役割に応えることが多い。
日本人アーティスト中谷芙二子による
霧の彫刻を補完するために作られた
彼の4重音波の屋外サウンド
インスタレーション「Lavender Ruins」は、
デューク·エリントンが毎年
無料コンサートを開いていたボストンの
放置された場所を再活性化させた。
マサチューセッツ州にある
ウィリアムズ大学美術館に滞在中、
彼のインスタレーション
「Sonance for the Precession」は、
現存する全米最古の天文台である
ホプキンス天文台に設置され、
ヒンズーとギリシャの
天文学と音響学の理論が
異文化交流を通じて
どのように発展したか
を考える文脈を提供した。
ブラジルのバイーア公文書館で発表した
彼のインスタレーション
「Portrait of Bahia」は、
ブラジル初の植民地時代の公文書を
保存することの重要性について、
第3回バイーアビエンナーレの
活動の一環として行われたものである。
